DESCRIPTION
The Wisconsin Agri-Business Association, Inc. is a non-profit trade association. Our mission is to represent, provide programs and services, educate, train, manage regulatory and legislative affairs, and to be a strong unifying voice for the agribusiness industries of Wisconsin.
We also pride ourselves in helping to grow the future of agribusiness in Wisconsin. We do that by providing college scholarships to deserving students pursuing an education in agriculture.
This year alone, WABA will directly be presenting $20,000 in college scholarships to students majoring in agriculture related fields of study, with plans of working in an agriculture-related career after graduation. We will also be supporting one graduate student as well.
Awards to be given to:
UW-Madison
UW-Platteville
UW-River Falls
UW-Stevens Point
Chippewa Valley Techinal College
Fox Valley Technical College
Lakeshore Technical College
Northcentral Technical College
Southwest Wisconsin Technical College
Western Wisconsin Technical College
WABA also gives $4,000 to the Wisconsin FFA Foundation each year, in the form of four $1,000 scholarships.
In addition to all of these great undergraduate scholarships, WABA was very instrumental in establishing a Distinguished Graduate Fellowship at UW-Madison. The "Leo Walsh/Wisconsin Agri-Business Association Distinguished Graduate Fellowship," named after Leo Walsh, a past dean of the University of Wisconsin College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, is annually used to help fund a graduate student working on an advanced degree in agricultural research. This fellowship pays out over $10,000 per year in accomplishing that mission.
Annual scholarship funds are raised through WABA member events such as the Scholarship Trap Shoot and Scholarship Golf Outings. The premier fundraising event is the Scholarship Silent Auction, held each year at the Wisconsin Agribusiness Classic at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Nearly 1,200 attendees visit the conference and trade show annually as it is considered Wisconsin's premier agribusiness industry event.
Due to COVID-19 and its resulting restrictions, we have transitioned our 2021 Wisconsin Agribusiness Classic to a virtual platform. We are fortunate that we are able to hold the auction online thanks to DPA Auctions and we are excited to continue our support of Wisconsin's agricultural youth!
